Her client hadn’t been thrilled with the manner of death. They had wanted something quieter, but understood that sometimes these things happened. The papers squawked for days about the murder of a little old lady in her home, but no mention of the gardening club.

Martha sat at her kitchen table, sipping a cup of tea with lemon. The vinyl of the chair squeaked as she shifted and leaned back in her seat. She was never going to be sure exactly what was going on in that gardening club. There was definitely some kind of money laundering going on, but what had Daisy’s part been in it? Had she threatened to expose it? Did she want a larger share? Whatever the reason, it had caused someone to want her dead and considering that her client remained anonymous, Martha would never know the answer for sure.

She sighed and took another sip of her tea. The warm, soothing flavour with the tang of lemon slid down her throat. She glanced out the window above her sink to her backyard beyond. There was a small, concrete patio out there that Freddy, her late husband, used to barbecue on and beyond that was just grass. Martha had tried to plant out there, but her gardening skills were limited.

It would have been nice to have someone like Daisy around to help her out. Too bad Daisy had turned out to be just as corrupt as the other executive in the gardening club.

Another snake in the grass.

Oh well, at least Martha could collect her fee. Then maybe she could just hire someone to deal with her backyard.

Just as long as they weren’t affiliated with the gardening club.

Money laundering or not, it contained too much drama for Martha’s liking.

And she preferred not to reap what that sowed.

The only drama she wanted to deal with was the question of whether to plant a vegetable garden or a flower garden. Of course, she had a front and backyard. Why not both? Vegetables in the back and flowers in the front.

She smiled as she lifted her tea cup.

There, not so much drama after all.

Now she just had to figure out who to hire to do the work.

But that was a decision that could wait for another day. After she had another cup of tea.
